Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of Koala Journal.

What Koala Journal does

Koala Journal is a private voice journal for recording, replaying, transcribing, searching, and organizing your own entries.

Recordings are saved on your iPhone first. Transcription is optional and runs only when you choose to create or retry a transcript for a specific recording.

Optional AI review is off by default. When enabled, it may create notes, tags, titles, and cited recall answers from selected journal content.

Not advice or professional care

Koala Journal is for journaling, organization, and factual recall. It does not provide medical, mental-health, therapy, crisis, legal, financial, safety, or professional advice.

Do not rely on Koala Journal for diagnosis, treatment, crisis support, legal decisions, financial decisions, or other high-stakes decisions. If you need urgent help or professional guidance, contact an appropriate professional or emergency service.

Your content

Your recordings, transcripts, notes, tags, questions, and entries are your content. You are responsible for the content you record and for deciding whether to create transcripts or enable optional AI review.

You should not record other people without any consent required by applicable law.

Optional cloud processing

Cloud processing is optional. If you allow it, Koala Journal may send selected recordings, transcripts, questions, and relevant entry text to service providers, including Google Firebase and OpenAI, only to provide app functionality such as transcription, optional notes, tags, and cited recall answers.

Allowing cloud processing does not automatically process existing entries or future recordings. You can turn off Cloud processing in Settings.

Local storage, export, and deletion

Koala Journal stores journal data in app storage on your device. You can export entries from Settings. You can delete local journal data from Settings.

Deleting the app or deleting all data may permanently remove local recordings and entries if you have not exported or backed them up.

Acceptable use

You may not use Koala Journal to violate the law, infringe others' rights, abuse the service, interfere with app operation, reverse engineer protected parts of the service, or attempt unauthorized access to systems or data.

Availability and changes

Koala Journal is provided as available. Features may change, stop, fail, or depend on device permissions, network availability, operating system behavior, and third-party service availability.

Transcripts, generated notes, tags, and answers may be incomplete or inaccurate. Review important information yourself.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Koala Journal is provided without warranties of any kind.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Egghead Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or loss arising from your use of or inability to use Koala Journal.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these limits may not apply to you.

Privacy

Your use of Koala Journal is also governed by the Koala Journal Privacy Policy.
