Privacy Policy

Sunscreen Buddy (the App) is provided by Nicholas Wong (we, us, or our). This policy explains what information the App handles, why it is used, and the choices available to you.

The short version

Information kept on your devices

Sunscreen profiles, application history, saved places, cached UV conditions, notification choices, and app preferences are stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch. This information may be shared between your devices, widgets, and Live Activities, but we do not receive it.

Deleting the App from one device may not remove copies from another paired device or an Apple backup.

Location, weather, and Apple Health

If you grant location access, the App sends your location to Apple Weather to obtain local UV and weather information. Place searches may also be sent to Apple's location services. Saved places and precise coordinates are not sent to us, Firebase, or RevenueCat.

Apple Health access is optional and read-only. With your permission, the App reads relevant completed workout information to adjust sunscreen reminders. It does not write to Apple Health, and Health information is not uploaded to us or our service providers.

People and Nudges

People features are optional. You may use a guest profile or Sign in with Apple. If you use People, we process a private account identifier, your chosen display name and username, friend connections and requests, blocks, notification details, purchase eligibility, short-lived UV and Buddy status, Nudge activity, abuse-prevention information, and safety reports.

Accepted friends may see your current UV value, a general Buddy status such as Chilling, and whether you responded to a Nudge. A response does not reveal whether you were indoors. People sharing does not include precise location, contacts, messages, sunscreen products, or application history.

There is no public directory, partial username search, chat, or contacts upload. You can turn People sharing off, disconnect a device, block another person, or delete your People account in the App.

Analytics, purchases, and service providers

We use a small number of service providers to operate the App:

Analytics is enabled by default. The App does not currently provide a setting to disable it. We do not attach a People username, display name, precise location, Health information, saved place, sunscreen profile, or user-entered text to analytics events.

These providers are required to protect information consistently with this policy. They may process information in other countries under their own terms and applicable safeguards. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect people or the service, or as part of a business transfer.

Retention and deletion

Disconnect This Device ends the People session on that device but does not delete the account. Delete Account removes the People profile and associated connections, requests, blocks, devices, status, and purchase mappings. Limited non-reversible records may remain to prevent username impersonation, accidental account restoration, or abuse. Safety reports may remain for the period above.

Deleting a People account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Manage subscriptions through Apple.

Your choices and rights

You can decline or change location, notification, Health, People-sharing, and Nudge-confirmation settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information. Contact us to make a request. We may need enough information to verify that the request is yours.

Age eligibility

The App and People features are intended for people age 13 and older. People under 13 should not create a People account. If you believe a child under 13 provided People information, contact us so we can restrict and delete it.

Security and health information

We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

The App is a planning tool, not medical advice. It does not measure sunscreen on your skin or guarantee protection from sunburn or other harm. Follow your sunscreen label and applicable public-health guidance.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the App, service providers, or legal requirements change. The date above identifies the current version.
