Privacy Policy
SunShield Sunscreen Protection (the "App") is provided by Nicholas Wong ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains how the App and this support website handle information.
Information stored on your devices
The App stores your sunscreen profile, including SPF, activity, water-resistance and alert settings; your current timer; reapplication session history; optional saved city; cached UV conditions; and appearance preferences. This information is stored in the App's local containers on your iPhone and Apple Watch.
The App uses Apple's WatchConnectivity framework to keep the timer, settings, UV conditions, and session history consistent between your paired iPhone and Apple Watch. We do not operate a server that receives this information.
Optional location and weather information
Local UV is off by default. If you enable it and choose your current location, the App requests When In Use location permission and asks the system for an approximate, city-level location. If you enter a city or postal code, that search is resolved using Apple's geocoding service.
The resulting location coordinate is sent to Apple Weather through WeatherKit to service your UV request. Apple states that WeatherKit location information is used to provide forecasts, is not associated with personally identifiable information, and is not tracked between requests. We do not receive your location or WeatherKit request.
You can turn Local UV off at any time in Settings. You can revoke location access in the Apple Settings app. The timer continues to work without location access.
Notifications and Live Activities
If you allow notifications, the App schedules sunscreen reminders using Apple system services. Live Activities can display your timer on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Notification and Live Activity state is handled on your devices and is not sent to us.
Information we do not collect from the App
The App does not include accounts, advertising, tracking, social features, crash-reporting SDKs, or third-party analytics SDKs. We do not receive your sunscreen settings, timer or session history, location, health information, notification choices, device identifiers, or usage activity from the App.
This website
This website may use Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate page usage. When enabled, Google may process information such as page interactions, browser and device details, approximate region derived from an IP address, and analytics identifiers under its own terms and privacy practices. Website analytics is separate from the App and cannot access your in-app sunscreen data. You can use browser privacy controls or content blockers to limit website analytics.
Retention, deletion, and privacy choices
In-app information remains on your devices until you clear a current session, remove the App, erase the relevant device, or change a setting. Because iPhone and Apple Watch maintain separate local containers, removing the App from one device may not remove information from the other.
We have no App account or developer database from which to retrieve or delete your in-app data. For website analytics information, requests can be sent to the contact address below.
Sharing and service providers
We do not sell personal information. The App uses Apple services for distribution, location permission, geocoding, WeatherKit, notifications, Live Activities, and device connectivity. The website may use Google Firebase Analytics. These providers handle information under their own privacy terms and applicable law.
Children
The App is suitable for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International processing
Apple and Google may process service data in countries other than where you live, subject to their contractual and legal safeguards.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the App, website, or legal requirements change. The updated date above identifies the current version.
Health and safety disclaimer
The App provides time-based planning estimates, not medical advice. Follow your sunscreen label and applicable public-health guidance. The App does not measure sunscreen remaining on your skin, diagnose skin conditions, or guarantee sunburn prevention.
